Request for Qualifications: Clerk-of-the-Works

Background:

The Cambridge Housing Authority and its affiliate entities are currently engaged in approximately $200 million of construction activities ranging from complete site new construction projects, to high-rise modernizations, to minor exterior restoration projects. Additionally, the CHA anticipates awarding another dozen significant construction projects over the next 1-3 years which will require on site project representatives. These projects are typically multi-year construction projects performed under public construction procurement laws (MGL 149 and MGL 149A). The CHA is seeking inquiries from experienced Clerk-of-the-Works (CotW) who are interested and available to work on projects now or over the next several years.

Qualified Personnel Sought:

The CHA is seeking in concert with its architectural firmsCotW personnel who are experienced with housing and/or public construction projects to serve as onsite representatives of the Architect and Owner during ongoing construction activities. Duties of the CotW will typically follow industry standard practices of observing and reporting on construction activities, monitoring submittals and product installations, and recording personnel on site daily. CHA construction projects are often performed in close proximity to occupied residential housing so individuals with a high degree of sensitivity and customer service orientation are preferred. CotWs can also expect daily interaction with CHA project managers as well as the architects. The CHA also utilizes cloud-based construction management software in its projects so technical skills and comfort with computer data entry is required.

Clerk-of-the-Works positions are typically contract positions engaged through the architecture firm employeed on a particular construction project. This RFQ is intended to solicit interested individuals for engagement on current or future construction projects through contracted architecture firms.
