RAD at Newtowne Court

Newtowne Court consists of eight three-story walk -up masonry, concrete buildings containing a total of 268 apartments ranging in size from one-bedroom to six-bedroom units. Newtowne Court sits on an eight acre site and is located in the Area 4 Neighborhood of Cambridge, near Kendall Square and adjacent to Washington Elms. Renovation work planned as part of the RAD-initiated modernization project includes the phased construction of interior apartment upgrades along with complete building systems upgrades to the boiler plants, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, as well as masonry restoration, landscaping, civil infrastructure and other site work improvements across the development.

Relocation: Newtowne Court will remain approximately 85% to 90% occupied during the construction period.  CHA will be asking for volunteers from Newtowne Court to move off-site to another CHA development or to Section 8 housing during the construction while work proceeds.  Residents who relocate off-site are guaranteed the option to return at the completion of construction.  Construction began in April 2015, and will last for approximately 33 months.

A relocation plan and agreement was developed with the Newtowne Court resident relocation committee, Alliance of Cambridge TenantsCambridge Somerville Legal Services and CHA.  It was approved by Newtowne Court residents on 4/7/15 and the CHA Board on 4/8/15.  Click on the link below to view the plan.
